Two words, TEENAGE REBELLION. Let me start from the beginning. This film is about Tracy, the blonde one, 13 years old (who doesn't look 13 to me lol ) teenager and overachiever in school, plus her best friend is her mum. Well at first I guess. She gets to the point in her life, where she wants to fit in and be where the "babes" are. She wants to dress cooler, act cooler, basically she would do anything to be in the popular crowd. But what she wants the most is to be best friend with the hot, stylish, well known, slutty classmate Evie, (the brunette one). She's not that mean, but she can change you in the worst form ever. Evie accepted Tracy when Evie told her to steal from a lady, so they could go shopping, and stupid naive Tracy just followed the instruction (since she's so desperate to join Evie's inner circle of the hottie-cool aristocracy). Since then, Tracy suddenly finds herself in a whole new world where living on the edge is cool and her loyal old best friends are like, SO NOT. Tracy changed so quickly. From being the good girl, now she's the girl who smokes pot, huffs fumes, gets her tongue and navel pierced, cuts her arm with a pair of scissors daily, and willingly will sleep with anyone she wants. She cuts herself so that she could try to coax some feeling up through the numbness of her flesh. Sex, too, must be cut off from emotion, preferably with the edgiest (read: not white) boy available. All of this, caused by only one friend. From this, you can see how friends can change you. How they could effect your life and future. Her mom, who used to be her best-est friend is left in the dust, at first confused but then seriously worried about what has happened to her daughter. Her mom tried everything to get her old daughter back, but failed worst everytime. Tracy refused any help, she was angry all the time, to everyone, well except Evie. The film ended up with Evie tricking and manipulating everyone around her and turned her back on Tracy. Let's just say, Tracy ended up disgusted by what she has become, yet she has no idea how to turn back. This film can be a wake-up-call to any troubled teen and parents. With an authenticity that is tender and merciless, the movie shows you what it looks like when youth rebellion becomes a form of fascism. What Tracy (and most troubled teens out there) needs isn't guidance but salvation. Needless to say, "Thirteen" is an uncompromising and beautifully told slice-of-life about the human condition of transitioning from a child to an adult.
